Known as Costa Vicentina, the coastal strip between Odeceixe and Burgau is prized for its calm, its fabulous panoramas of the Atlantic cliffs carved over millennia, its natural diversity, its excellent cuisine using produce from both sea and land, its beaches of wild beauty and its famous waves that are much-loved by surfers.
Among the countless beaches making up this coast, you will find coves protected by high rocky cliffs or long sandy beaches stretching as far as the eye can see.
Our choice of itinerary selects three of these beaches in the Aljezur municipality. Let's start with the beach at Odeceixe, in the far north-west of the Algarve. Voted one of the "7 Wonders - Beaches of Portugal", it has the advantage of offering visitors the chance to swim both in the sea and the river, since it is bordered by the Seixe River, which flows down from the Monchique mountains.
Further south, Monte Clérigo boasts an immense sandy beach and a rocky platform haven to a great diversity of marine fauna at low tide. There is an abundance of sea birds feeding on little fish in the tide pools.
Finally, there's the uniquely beautiful Arrifana beach: a must for surfing or bodyboarding fans. Its stretch of sand, covering more than half a kilometre, is protected by high schist cliffs. Here you can find various fauna and flora habitats which are home to many bird species, especially white storks that, unlike anywhere else in the world, build their nests on the cliffs.
